The Siren Board

We're planning to go see the Huntington Beach T-bolt test tomorrow (Fri, 12/30/06), which goes off between 12 noon and 1 PM. Anyone else going? I'll either be at of the 5891 Heil St or 16221 Bushard St fire stations. I missed the Oct & Nov tests. And this time, I'll ambush the fire captain and ask for a REAL test; not a 3-second growl like Edison Park did in September. We'll be in a red '05 Chevy lifted 4x4 crew cab truck wth Texas plates. I'll repost if I decide ahead of time which of the two locations it will be.

Just FYI: this could be one of the last tests with the Thunderbolts. Rumors say that they will be phased out in favor of new electronic sirens

If anyone can add any more info or schedules of other Southern Cal tests, please post here!

I think you mean 16221 Gothard St. The station on Bushard Street is 19711 and it has a 2001 ontop of a cell tower in front.

I'll try to drop by as well tomorrow if I don't oversleep. Look for a white 1990 Corolla with 3 missing hubcaps and trailer lights hanging out the rear.

CIM is also testing as well on Friday, January 5th as they always do every first Friday of the month. The last time I was there to watch the test; the siren I was watching on top of a guard tower visible from a parking lot across the street did not activate. I passed by the prison a few more times in December and noticed they had removed the siren from the guard tower only to re-install it around two weeks later on a 40 foot pole about 500 feet north of the guard tower where it was originally. Now that they have it "correctly" installed instead of on a very low building; I'll have to see the next test as well.

Thanks for pointing that out!!! I took notes in a hurry, and transposed the streets... I would have been driving in circles looking for a fake street number.

Now heading out, so traffic permitting, we'll be there before noon at the Gothard firehouse.

Bad news:

I just came back from Huntington Beach and all the Thunderbolt sirens have been removed leaving holes in the ground where the poles were. The only siren still up is the 19711 Bushard Street location with the 2001.

I went to the 16221 Gothard location first but was wonder "Hey, where's the Thunderbolt ?" Afterwards, I went to 5891 Heil only to find the siren missing as well. Still, I walked behind the station to see if I could at least find something sitting on the ground but discovered a big hole instead with a sawed off pole laying in the middle. Same thing at Edison Park and Magnolia.


The Good News:



I went to Bushard Street after Heil and before Magnolia and accidently locked my keys in the car. Luckily, the fire station was only a block away and I got two people there to help me unlock the car. We talked about the sirens afterwards and they told me that some stations may only be having their poles replaced while other stations (Magnolia/Edison Park was one) are getting new sirens. They told me to come back by the end of January and they should be installed by then but, I have class on that day. I did drop by Magnolia after Bushard only to have them tell me their siren was also taken down but the AR-timer was still there inside the station. Unfortunately, they did not let me photograph it due to national security issues but it's the vintage 1960's version with the Manual, Take Cover, and Alert buttons on the right side.

Did you find out what they did with the old ones?

This is definitely a revoltin' development ...

I too went to the fire station as planned; 16221 Gothard. Looked for Soundoff, but didn't see.... We got there at 11:40, saw the siren missing, and had a bad feeling. We went into the station to inquire, and talked to Sam at the desk. He said the sirens had been taken down (with saws and hammers) a few weeks ago, and that he didn't know for sure what happened to them.

That?s ridiculous why didn?t they give them to a town that could have used them like a small town! Shame on HB!

They should of been put up for Public Auction or Sealed Bids , which in my
opinion, would of gennerated more funds for the city.

I know this is an old thread but what happened to the T-bolts after there were replaced with T-128s?
