I bet that was fun to go out and turn off every siren by hand

Oh geez, talk about tedious if they had to turn off all the Whelens...Even if they had to turn off all the old sirens. Last time I saw the Thunderbolt at 24th and Hemphill, the disconnect was off.

Ah hah, another sighting of the EXTREEMLY RAER double-headed Hurricane! What cities had them/when were they made/how can I get one/did they have hi-lo solenoids etc etc?

So they use a picture of 2 ACA Hurricanes and video of a Thunderbolt and SD-10 but audio of a 435 hz Whelen? Interesting.

I'd love to of heard the words coming out of Davids mouth at his office haha... all 70 something by hand..

Quite honestly, I strongly suspect that the part of the story about city workers having to turn off the sirens individually by hand is about as accurate as the double head Hurricane graphic and the non rotating Thunderbolt that sounds like a Whelen.

It would have taken hours for the sirens to be shut off one at a time and that would have caused a huge stir.

Until it was posted on here, all I heard about it, was a brief posting by a couple of Norman residents on OKCTalk.com to the effect of "well we know the Norman tornado sirens work". Certainly, the posters would have posted more than that if the sirens continued to run for any length of time.

I don't see it being THAT tedious, if the fire and police departments get involved in turning off the sirens, each person take a few sirens, they would get turned off pretty quick.

Given the fact that most cities/towns of any size have the control boxes and power switchs locked with very few keys floating around it is probably a huge headache to shut down the sirens at the pole. Add to that most larger towns/cities have the PD running with backed up 911 calls for true emergencies. In many places having the PD turn the sirens off probably has the priority of a barking dog complaint.

I was told it was only a portion of them that activated not all of them and I certainly did not hear anything at my house and there is one a few blocks away.
