The Siren Board

My Thunderbolt has a problem with the collector ring/brushes, and I haven't had a chance to repair it yet. So in order not to miss a "Last Friday of the Month" chance to blow a siren, I hooked up an SD10 to a 3-phase Diesel generator, and sounded it with a temporary hookup today. I laid the siren (no housing) up on cinder blocks to allow for good intake, and I drove iron stakes to hold it in place... I didn't want it to launch .

All good! Here's a video. We have a BAD wind blowing today, so I had to shut the camera inside a vehicle to prevent wind blowing into the microphone (same wind that is the reason for the fail of my New Years Eve recording). The video starts at :45, since I started the camera too early. Nothing missed.

It does indeed! I haven't gotten around to restoring the sheet metal yet, or whether to install it, or keep it for display, etc. They're nearly impossible to move around when the housing is on, since it's so easy to damage with the heavy motor & chopper in the middle of all that light sheet metal. So I'm leaving it apart 'til I figure out where to stick it. That one came from Northern CA; got it on eBay a couple years ago.

Where in northern California? The only SD-10 I've seen there is in a town of about 70 people called Tennant up near the Oregon border.

I think it was used in Palo Alto, or nearby. It was located in Moutain View when I bought it, but I can't remember exactly where the seller said he got it. It was somewhat local to that area, I recall.

Charles, the siren you bought,was the sheetmetal painted grey? because I sold a sd10 to a couple of guys in Moutainview Ca.They also had another sd10 that they acquired from Sunnyvale Ca.The sd10 that I sold them came from Senter Rd in San Jose.all of San Jose's Remaining CD era sirens are all painted dull green,grey or black.I believe the sd10 picture is still in the for sale section although a few pages back....

Sd10's are still around in San Jose Ca,two that I know of, Sunnyvale Ca,three there, Mountainview had one but it's gone now, Palo alto still has one on top of it's downtown fire station,Atherton still has on behind one of it's firestations, it's completely obscurred by trees and there is still one up in brisbane along with a model 5/7 There used to be one more up the road from the first Brisbane sd10,mounted on a pump house but the Loma Prietta quake in 89 knocked it off of it's perch.Both of the remaining sirens are mounted way low because of the hills they're perched on....

There's still at least 4 SD-10's in San Jose left, & plenty of Model 5/7's. Sunnyvale has several SD-10's. Most of the sirens around here are painted dark green.

This one was always FS yellow, but I think the seller mentioned a neighbor (a member on this board? ), who had other sirens. I have a terrible memory for actual names vs. usernames here, so please excuse me if one of you is that person
