Help Identifying Unknown siren

Wed Mar 28, 2012 11:19 pm

Some guys on the Elightbars.org forum have acquired this siren and are asking help in identifying. This is what they wrote:

"Attached is a photo of our original Sterling Model 10 siren recently rescued from a field in a neighboring township! I have been looking for this siren for 30+ years, I knew it was still around but didn't know where. One of our older members found out who had it and we had it donated to us. We trucked it back to the firehouse.

Now, we have been told this is a "40 horsepower" siren, although we have also been told they only made 5 and 10 horse models. Where did the "40 horse" idea come from?

I need help with this siren, anyone have any infor on it?"

Looks like a H.O.R. Super Sirex to me, but I might be wrong

It could be a HOR, but on the HORs that I have seen the shroud over the rotors is the same height over the motor.

I'm 90% sure it's an H.O.R. Super Sirex, but the rotor cover is what is throwing me off.

I'll bet you dollars to donuts it's a Sterling M with horns added on the sides.

I have no question that`s a Super Sirex, the horns and rotors give it away.

That is a H.O.R. Super Sirex, definitely not a Sterling M10, or a Sterling of any kind for that matter. The sheer size of it compared to the men standing behind it gives it away, and the other features like the tall, slender choppers and the end horns do too. I remember seeing other instances where they had Sterling-esque covers and shrouding, so this may be unique to the 40hp models whereas the 50hp ones had the single large "doghouse" that covered its motor and stators.
