Must think the company is called Wailin'. (sorry, I just had to say it)

The guy who lived a mile away is retarded. Sirens like this are only supposed to work within a 0.5 mile radius or so, and if you can even hear it at 1 mile away you've been blessed with amazing hearing. Outdoor warning sirens are also supposed to warn people outdoors, too, so he's lucky he heard it inside. And they're definitely not supposed to wake you up... that's what weather radios are for.

Taking all bets on the "next siren vendor"!! I'm casting my vote for ATI. They'll probably up the volume so loud it'll be heard over a mile away, then the drivers will blow the first time they use it after buying it. Everyone's just too damn cheap for good sirens...

I think both pronunciations are acceptable.

I think that "Whelen" is pronounced as "whee-lynn," up north.

Anyway, when you compare a Whelen WPS siren to a Federal Signal Modulator siren, the difference in their sizes is pretty funny, considering that they both pack the same punch.

The reason it could not be heard over a mile is because it was a 5 cell siren, a Vortex R-4 which is 129 dB can be heard for over 3 miles (from personal experience) The Vortex and WPS 4004 are both louder than the Omni directional series Whelen has to offer. IMHO whelen is the best electronic siren manufacturer around, all the others are way to high pitch for optimum long distance coverage.

I believe they also had a demonstration by Federal Signal.

Has American tested theirs for this county yet? I would love to see their opinion of the T135 or T-128 while standing right underneath it!

If they would all be standing under the old T-135 while they tested it they would be standing there with bloody ears.
