I hope they decide to get great sirens - like 508's! It's sad that so many communities are choosing poor sirens.

Was always sorry to see the Hurricanes go, but I will take Vortexes there over the ATI junk any day.

You are right. Vortexes aren't all that bad, we have a system of Vortexes here in Clinton County, but I would prefer Hurricanes over Vortexes any day.

Yes they're installing 15 new Whelen Vortex's. They're taking down the ATI's that were mounted on the old ACA Hurricane poles as they're being replaced with new steel poles for the Whelen's. Looks like no cost cutting going on anymore over there.

Well, they got a wakeup call April 3 of last year with the tornadoes going through both Dallas and Tarrant counties simultaneously and the tornadoes in Granbury, Cleburne, and Ennis this year. So yes, tornadoes *do* happen here.

If they didn't heed those warnings, it would probably take a hit on the city itself to wake up the politicians. Thankfully I am happy to see them get their stuff together, pull their head out of their nether regions and put in a proper working siren system.

Their citizens will be better for it the next time the sky gets really black here.

That is a news video containing footage of the installation. They stuck VisuAlerts on them as well (fascating because Whelen only advertises the VisuAlert with the 2900s and OAs). Talk about no cost cutting!

There's a VERY quick few frames at :44 with one of the interviewees pointing to an Alertronic 6000. First I've heard of Garland having an Alertronic.

Why are they facing up? According to a Whelen PDF., they should be facing down.

The whelen sirens are not on steel poles, they're on concrete poles and the VisuAlerts are facing down...

Here's a couple of pictures of one of their new units.

I thought I was seeing things when I saw The Alertronic. At First I thought that the rotator was put on weird on a vortex but it is an Alertronic.
