Pic Of The Dallas Fire Station 42 Thunderbolt With Lights

Sun Jul 14, 2013 2:11 am

I found a pic of the Dallas Fire Station 42 (the station on Mockingbird by Love Field) Thunderbolt with the anti collision lights.
I took this pic in 2005. Obviously before the station was demolished. I still wonder what happened to this siren. Probably got scrapped.

I have been curious about that one as well. Last time I was in that area I saw the new station they built but no sign of the Thunderbolt. You might try talking to that Josh guy down at the EMA. He has been able to answer some of my questions about the older system.

I don't think we know what happened to any of the ones being removed. The first one to disappear that I remember, was FS #10 (Frankford just west of the N Tollway). I'm beginning to think they're going to handle it like Los Angeles County has, in that they only remove them when they're in the way, or when somebody crashes into one. With no actual plan with timeline to follow, it's really hard to try to get any info or actually be there to rescue any of the T-Bolts. If there's anyone at City Hall who would help out on this, and make a call or post here when an old system siren is going to be coming down, that would be the answer

I took the Station 10 siren up to Oak Ridge east of Gainsville. I thought I had mentioned that about 20 times on here before.
Here it is back in service.

We saw the Oak Ridge siren on the way back from Wichita Falls and stopped to look at it. You can see that siren from a LONG ways off.

I owe an apology! I indeed remember now... Had a brain fart. Not that it's a valid excuse, but I had a lot of things going on last week, and didn't take the time to think about what had been posted about that before. And in fact, now I remember commenting on that one being saved and back in service.

At least we know where 1 and a half are then. Station 10's is in Oak Ridge and the blower and RCM panel from old Station 33 are in my garage.
I do know the chopper/rotator from old Station 33 got scrapped. I missed that one by half a day. The pole got pushed over by a dozer.
I would have taken it anyway whatever condition it was in after the drop.

He says it in the first post... They are anti-collision lights, probably so landing helicopters can see the siren.
