I really like the sound of their sirens. However, I don't care for the sudden braking of the motor when its winding down at the end. I am sure there is a way to defeat this function?

Sincerely yours,

But when it was winding down with that abrupt stopping, it sounded like an ACA Screamer in the Sound & Video page of this site! : :D :o

It's a shame(not literally) that the camera person didn't stay in the original location. That echo was creepy, and I bet the wind down would have been creepier from on the hill. The sound of the traffic drowns out the siren too, there is also next time though.

the breaking is usly so that if fire crews must commuincate they can with out the 3 min wind down in the back round of the raido.

tho that was one nice sounding siren. deffitly just won one of the coolest sound sirens on my list.

We have Sentry sirens here, and all 4 of them have that abrupt slow down at the end, when they are thru testing..but when they sound for the any other reason they don't do that..they have a normal slow down. i just thought it was our sirens that did this, thinking there was something wrong with them. I guess not. someone who really cares about it could research it or find out more about it?? I dunno :?

The sudden "braking" is due to the fact that the motor is a single phase capacitor start motor, not for testing or communication (I'm not gonna go into electrical talk here, just think of it as a single phase motor with a small capacitor phase converter) . These newer cheaper single phase motors are different than older squirrel cage motors found on older sirens and industrial equipment. Three phase sirens and motors do not have this problem.

That sound is something that you'd hear in the movies. Hearing that sound would be one of the best occasions for me!
