The Siren Board

Hello all

I have a question. I am a proud owner of both a FS Thunderbolt 1000b and also a 1003 siren. I am fully restoring both and I am planning on putting one of them on a poll in my backyard, fully functional. Which one do you guys think I should put in my backyard on the poll, the 1000b or the 1003?

When you say 1000B, do mean a B series Thunderbolt, or a single pahse Thunderbolt? If it is a B seires I would say the 1000B, there are not too many still standing or functioning. So I would vote on that one. If not, then I would say the 1003.

A 1000b is a single phase single tone thunderbolt. A 1000bt is a single phase dual tone thunderbolt. A 1000a is a three phase single tone thunderbolt. A 1000at is a three phase dual tone thunderbolt.

I would vote the 1003.

Where in Chicagoland do you live again? Have you gotten permission from the local government to "add" your siren to their system? I ask only because I want to do the same with my Model 2 here in Palatine.

I know but I was wondering if the "b" stands for the seires (offset rotator).

If you have local government permission, I would vote for the 1003 because it can do hi-lo along with all the other signals a 1000B can do. Having that option would be neat and nice to have. Plus it would stand out and sound awesome doing hi-lo in the mix of all the other Chicago land sirens.

I hope you put that thing at least 35 feet above grade. If not your neighbors are going to shoot you the first time you set it off.

Hi mrboojay

Its actually a model 1000B as read on the tag on the rotator box. Single phase all around including blower. Its not a series B i don't believe.

Hi Mitch

i am in vernon Hills, IL....I actually spoke with the Vernon Hills PD and they pretty much said if no residents complain its ok to sound it at the once a month testing cycles. But the sgt I spoke with also said he is not "giving" me permission to activate it, so in a nutshell, i am still unsure if its ok to sound it during the testing cycles. he did not metion "adding" the siren to the city system but I could ask about that too.

B stands for single phase, and A stands for three phase. Does that sound right?
