The Siren Board

I was heading down to Clay, AL for a football game last night and I decided to siren hunt on the way down there.

The first siren I saw was the 2001-AC at McGucken Park in Huntsville, AL.

The next siren I saw was a Whelen along US 231 in Arab, AL, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get any pictures. The siren is located here (the placemark for it is located on the fourth page of the map).

After that, I stopped at Cleveland, AL's town hall to photograph the Sterling 2v8 and Whelen 2809 there.

Then, I stopped in Rosa, AL to photograph a Whelen Hornet I found at their town hall.

The second to last siren I saw was a Whelen Vortex in Allgood, AL at the fire department.

I also saw the 2001-AC at Clay, AL's town hall. I'm pretty sure this siren is a second generation 2001 because it looks like the one in McGucken Park (which I' pretty sure it's a second generation 2001 as well) and reading some posts on the forum as well. The siren is located here (the placemark is on the second page of the map).

Holy crap, it's a dual tone Sterling 2v8.

That is a 2nd Gen. 2001. You are right. Nice pictures, the one of the Hornet makes it look like a big rotating PA speaker, it is so small. It sounds like you found a rare Sterling too.

Great photos! That Sterling must be about as rare as they get.

Essentially it's just a fancy bell on a rotator with a single 400W driver enclosed in it. The first time I saw one I though it was just another 2001 variant...
