refinishing/painting

Tue Oct 15, 2013 2:06 am

Hi guys

I had another few questions with regards to refinishing. I have stripped all parts of paint. Should I now use a chemical wash of some sort to prep the metal for priming or can I just use water to rise off the parts? What is the best procedure after paint stripping to prep the parts for primer/paint?

Also I plan on replacing some parts on both my 1000 and 1003 (brushes, bearings), my question is where can I get these parts from? McMaster-carr? Are there any parts that you guys know of that should definately be replaced and where can I get them from?

Thanks guys!!
Chris

Bearings you can find at a host of sites online, You'll need either 87502s or 6202s (you'll need a washer to compensate the difference) Brushes you're likely going to have to order them directly from federal. ( Don't say anything about needing them for a t-bolt, just saw you need em for a model 2). As far as paint I will let someone more qualified answer that question!

Not that I'm aware of, you'll have to probably get creative or see if you can get some made somewhere

You can probably reuse your solenoid brushes if they aren't totally shot. How much brush material is left on them.

Don't use water to wash bare metal parts, it will flash rust on you. Instead just wipe them down with laquer thinner or acetone.
