Yes, prefer steel. Steel poles are strong and durable. They are impervious to insects and rot, and are 100 percent recyclable at the end of their long service lives. Unlike traditional wooden poles, steel poles do not need toxic chemical preservative treatments and do not create future hazardous waste disposal concerns.

Steel poles are fabricated with uniform dimensions tolerance materials, providing superior strength, consistent performance, and enhanced reliability. Steel poles also have the flexibility to be designed as direct wood pole replacements, or can be engineered to meet any specific loading criteria. To prevent corrosion, steel distribution poles can be galvanized or manufactured with weathering steel. They are light in weight and easy to install, require less maintenance, and offer lower overall life cycle cost. Do prefer using Polyurethane Foam Backfill System Too...

I once again thank you for sharing so much. This should be an advertisement for your work. The quality you're putting into your installs is fantastic.

Until you do a cost comparison.

Even though Thunderbolts do look really slick on steel poles.

Sure you pay more for steel up front. Wooden life is what 15years to steel 80 to 100 years?

I like to "hide" all my wiring inside, it looks very nice and "Clean" won't you say?

holler, Have you ever seen Polyurethane Foam Backfill System? That itself can add a few years to wooden poles...

Actually wood pole life is over 30 years now.

Yes we have used the pole setting foam backfill before. Its pretty cool, saves a bunch of backfilling and tamping.

We tamp them in by hand, from the bottom of the hole all the way to the surface. No hydraulic or pneumatic tamper, just two tamping bars and muscle.

Do a couple of those everyday and you can b**chslap a grizzly bear.
