Yes, prefer steel. Steel poles are strong and durable. They are impervious to insects and rot, and are 100 percent recyclable at the end of their long service lives. Sure you pay more for steel up front. Wooden life is what 15years to steel 80 to 100 years?

I like to "hide" all my wiring inside, it looks very nice and "Clean" won't you say?

holler, Have you ever seen Polyurethane Foam Backfill System? That itself can add a few years to wooden poles...

Actually wood pole life is over 30 years now.

Yes we have used the pole setting foam backfill before. Its pretty cool, saves a bunch of backfilling and tamping.

We tamp them in by hand, from the bottom of the hole all the way to the surface. No hydraulic or pneumatic tamper, just two tamping bars and muscle.

Do a couple of those everyday and you can b**chslap a grizzly bear.
