T-128 vs T-130?

Sun Apr 08, 2007 8:59 am

Hey, I took this pic last weekend while siren driving around Illinois. This installation looked no older than a week as there was very fresh dirt around the base of the pole. My question is: do any of you know an outward physical difference between the T-128s and T-130? They look nearly identical to m other than the gear-like device on the bottom of the second one which I would guess is for sensing rather than rotation. The second pic is definitely of a T-128. I'm not really sure on the size difference on a T-135 either, so maybe that's a possibility?

The rotator box on the first pic is shorter in length than the T-128 in the
second pic. Its also taller by a little.

I'm guessing the first siren is a T-132

BTW, where in Illinois did you find the first siren?

What excellent photos!
Hate to ask. Are these electromechanical sirens?
If so, where does the air enter?
The toothed disk clicks off increments to indicate where the siren is pointing?
Thank you,

Yes, they are mechanical sirens.

I just noticed the toothed disk you pointed out. The T-128 has one, but the T-132 doesn't.

After comparing the photos and doing a bit of research, I really do believe that the first pic is just your run of the mill T-128. If you notice, the size of the horns between the two pics is similar (accounting for identical rotor size) and the motor enclosure is taller but not as long on the first pic compared to the second pic (probably accounting for a different variety of motor; the T-128 in the second picture is clearly an older installation judging from the visible gear). I also went to ASC's website and compared pictures, where the first picture more matched their pic of the T-128 in dimension than it did the T-135.

Now, I could be wrong, no doubt. But above is my best educated guess.

I'll agree and say they are both T-128's. As far as I know there is only one t-132 installed in illinois, near elwood. One thing that will be different is the 132 will be on a much higher pole.

The air intakes are at the front, those little triangle openings between the horns. I got this info from Dale Moeller several years ago.

From what i heard, T-132s are being installed sporadically and rapidly
across IL, especially in Ogle county.

I always thought that the inner holes were the intakes, with the outer holes being the output ports. Weird.

Didn't they do computer modeling to design the horns?

The only visible difference I know of is that the T-135 AC/DC has 3 bolts holding the horn shroud on instead of 2 on the T-128
