I was wondering what the range is on some of the older civil defense sirens by Federal Signal. Thanks

Running a 5 HP dual tone Castle Castings siren in the UK (I don't know what would be the nearest FS equivalent siren), on the ground and not up a mast, during the winter and in a rural area, no hills it got heard 4 miles away by a friend of a friend in their garden. For that type of siren, it had a expected range of 1.25 miles and just over a third of a mile to be audible inside houses. The audibility range would be less or greater depending if it was situated in highly built up, suburban or rural area.bobcat418 wrote:I was wondering what the range is on some of the older civil defense sirens by Federal Signal. Our Federal xT22 sounds exactly like the UK Castle Castings/Carter sirenDon't Panic! wrote:Running a 5 HP dual tone Castle Castings siren in the UK (I don't know what would be the nearest FS equivalent siren), on the ground and not up a mast, during the winter and in a rural area, no hills it got heard 4 miles away by a friend of a friend in their garden. The two Castle Castings sirens I have are both 5 HP versions, there is a more powerful 7.5 HP version, which I believe would be equal to the main production run of xt22s. If I am correct, the early xt22s were even bigger at 10 HP!holler wrote:The xt22 is also a lot bigger siren than the castle castings.
