Why is the 2001-130 different than the SRN*B

Why did Federal Signal change the 2001 to have a rectangular chopper housing instead of keeping the same design as the SRN*B (square chopper housing)?

I know I just wanted to use my photos but the 130 came out huge but I don't know how to re-size it here.sirendude2012 wrote:Just to let you know, there are smaller 2001-130 pictures you could've used.
I don't know but There's a -130 near me and every time I see it, it leans forward. I guess thats from too much weight on the front even though its installed leveled correctly.Jim Z wrote:the 2001-SRN and SRNB had a support beam which ran directly across the chopper inlet, (see Rick K's photos here) which restricted airflow. I think the taller inlet box on the -130 either got rid of that beam or had a different one which was out of the way of the chopper intake.
Ok that makes a lot more sense thanks for the information.Jim Z wrote:oh, and the -130 raised the chopper inlet above the collector ring housing (which is just a modified Thunderbolt chopper tube.)
Is this why most 2001s aren't loud enough?Jim Z wrote:the 2001-SRN and SRNB had a support beam which ran directly across the chopper inlet, (see Rick K's photos here) which restricted airflow. The main factor in that is the frequency they sound at. Their high pitch (often between 700 and 755 hertz) doesn't carry very well when air is the sound medium.floor-a-matic wrote:Is this why most 2001s aren't loud enough?
