The Siren Board

I have seen some ways on getting some additional height with roof mounts. I have a model 2, and am looking to get it a few feet higher. I saw some metal tower type things mounted on top of the roof and then the siren on top of them. Also saw someone with a pipe mount coming off of the roof. Any ideas or suggestions? I could never find the towers online. Thanks.

Are you trying to reuse the existing base mounting platform? If so would you be able to provide a picture? There are a number of variables to consider when roof mounting equipment. Most important would be the EPA of the siren and what wind load you are attempting to achieve. What type of building construction is it?

Heres an example of what I want to do. Just wondering where these towers are found. This pic is one of Murrfarms'. Its a model 2, so it isn't that heavy.

Lots of fire companies in suburban Philadeplhia have roof monted sirens supported by angle iron towers, but I haven't ever seen towers like that sold commercially. Most I have worked on look like they were fabricated locally and installed from the 1940's to 1960's.

Roof mount = water leakage issues to me.

Make a simple wooden roof mount that attaches to each side of the peak. Use lag bolts and stuff them holes full of calk.

I've thought about roof mounting my Model 2 from time to time. With a little welding and metal work you could easily make it happen by buying one of those cheap little windmills from Rural King or any farm supply store and then mount that to your roof along with the Model 2.

You might want to try looking into an amateur radio (ham) roof mount set up for antennas. I've seen some that look quite similar to the roof mount for the siren that is shown above. Some of those roof mounts are capable of holding in place a couple hundred pounds, at least, of antenna and related etc.
I have used roof mounts for around 30 years w/ antennas and have had no issues with roof leaks...I sealed every place where mounting hardware was used/in contact with the roof w/ roof sealer.

....There are many manufactures, do a search for amateur radio (ham) antenna mounts (base)... base being a building verses a mobile mount for vehicles....there are also D.I.Y plans available on the net as well....you won't need to weld anything...just have the ability and tools to cut and drill 1/8" metal......there are also some sites out there that can help you figure wind loads and whether or not you might want to use 1/4" metal depending on the stress being put on the structure due to height of the mount itself(higher the mount, less weight that can be safely supported vs. a shorter mount being able to support more weight) The weight of the siren and related hardware figures into this as well.

Word to the wise: don't build anything so tall as that later on you can't do simple repairs if needed safely....been there and done that.
