newbie- just bought a Federal 2001-SRNB, questions

I bought this thing based on pictures and it is a lot larger than I imagined. Looks to be in pretty good shape,
but I have no manual or info on it. What are the common issues with these? Is there any reason I can't spin the motor up on 12 volts as a test method? (maybe that will keep me out of jail)

thank you

The motor will run off 12 volts, you'll just have to manually engage the Contactors.

Thanks for the replies, mine is not the Ebay unit. I have not yet tried the control box, rectifier etc., but did apply 24VDC to the "rotor motor" leads and it spun up pretty good with little vibration. The rotation function turns slowly but smoothly on 24V as well. The county I live in has "no noise ordinance" according to officials, but I know better than to create a nuisance- they can always think of something. I'm sure to be back with more questions after I get this thing cleaned up and hooked up to power.

Hey like I said in a few threads I contacted a police sergeant in a city that has sirens and asked if I could test mine with theirs and he was cool with that.

Coastal, I don't think you understand that not every county is ok with some citizen blasting a siren. Just because you contact a police sergeant, doesn't make it "good to go".

My point is if one place doesn't work another place might… I can't sound mine here but I can there… And contacting him actually does because the sirens are run by the police. (The government was in favor of ridding them.) NOTE: I am tired and sputtery… If I said something that doesn't make sense let me correct it later.

I appreciate everyone's concern, but must admit that my "out of jail" comment was more to make the point that I hoped to make a somewhat valid test while limiting the volume a bit than out of any real concern about trouble with the "law". Without going into detail, I do not think that will be an issue in my case.

Made a bit more progress this afternoon, even without documentation. Verified that the rectifier is wired for 240V, and found all the important connections in the control box. I may be able to run it off of the rectifier soon.

Welcome to our forums....and all the quirks that come with it.

To bring this thread back to reality, here's some help for you: a copy of the 2001 SRNB manual. I got this from FS's website that is archived in archive.org. I strongly suggest you save this to your computer once it downloads in the event archive.org ever removes this.

Again, I sure appreciate the help. With a bit of luck, I will be able to see if the controller works soon.

I am not sure... But can a 2001 chopper be run of 120v? I don't think it can be fully run at 120v but I just want to make sure that idea is correct.
