Re: Sirens in Michigan

Mr. Jeff DuPilka of West Shore Services, Inc. won the contract to remove Detroit's old Chrysler Victory Sirens in the late 1980s. They decided to cannibalize several of these sirens, to completely create one that was in mint condition for the "Engine House No. 5 Museum" located in Allendale, Michigan. Unless it's in storage, the Chrysler siren should be up at the museum on display.

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.

I guess there was supposed to be 4 of those sirens in Grand Rapids. I wonder what happened to them all?

How long did it take to remove Detroit's old Chrysler sirens?
I am in Ms. Scott's classroom right now. It's 12:45 PM.

From what I was told, the project took several days. They needed to bring in some very tall cranes for the removal of these sirens, since they were mounted up so high on building tops. Once the project was completed, the old Chrysler sirens were taken back to West Shore Service's graveyard. Most of the other sirens were cannibalized to make one fully complete unit, and the engines were sold off. Apparently, scrap thieves were able to steal some of the parts off the Chrysler sirens before they were removed.

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.

There is a Thunderbolt on top of the Pfizer plant in Portage, a city dominated by :2001: SRNs.

The Model 5/7 is popular with many fire departments in MI.

I've seen EOWS 612s and SD-10s in battle creek. There are also 3 Allertors in Niles. Schoolcraft has a model 5/7, as well as many fire departments in Kalamazoo. Also, I believe that there is a Sterling model N in Springport.
