Romeoville Illinois adding 2 new sirens

Mon May 26, 2014 6:00 am

Looks like one will be a small Modulator and the other a 2001. I'm guessing they will both be yellow, as every siren there is yellow. Now they will have a yellow 2001 in every series. Roundback, squareback with the smaller projector, large projector, SRN-B, and now a 130.

Watch the one from Braniff be a 508 instead of a 2001-130. That would be pretty sweet to see one of those in yellow, though either way they would both look really slick in yellow.

I hope it's a 508. I haven't seen one in person and romeoville is about 30 minutes away so I could easily see it.

My money is on another 2001. But who knows. They also have an ACA P-20 from 1989 with a Federal box, the rest are 2001's. They also control one of Plainfield's T128's behind the Carrillon retirement subdivision. I'm surprised they are adding more sirens. There is a 2001 at the park they are installing the mod at, probably why it will be small. They have to be the most over covered town I have seen around here. If I had access to the Illinois siren map, I would fill in all the locations I know of. They have sirens everywhere. But either way, cool for enthusiasts.

I'm trying to add you to the map but I am having trouble contacting the owner of the map.

OK another news article said they are only buying the modulator and moving one of the 2001's, now I can't find it! But I did find a board agenda that supports this, based on price and size. Looks like they are getting a Modulator II 8024B. It also looks like they are getting 16 prerecorded messages. Wow.

Yes, we installed the new modulator. It killed me not to make it yellow like I have all of the others we have purchased but this one is going into the middle of a park and I needed to follow the parks looks. It does have a black powder coated pole. We needed the Modulator because this is a festival area where large crowds gather. It is also solar powered and we brought online on October 8th.

The DC-2001 was removed, refurbished, converted to solar and reinstalled on Normantown Road. This brings us up to 18 sirens. We hope to replace the ACA siren on High Road next year as the rotator chain has worn through the housing.

We are refurbishing about 2-3 sirens a year, replacing control boxes and battery boxes with the newer more durable aluminum enclosures. I think yellow should be the color of a siren, just as red is to a fire engine!

Nice installation. That's the best looking Modulator I've seen yet. Does it run at the stock pitch that Federal Signal programs it to, or has it been altered?

That's a nice install Mike, I would have sworn it would have been yellow! Will you use a recorded test message in addition to tone? And that's a real bummer that the P-20 has to go, but it's good that you guys stay on top of things. I was just curious, how are the older 2001's holding up? The sirens themselves? Ours were replaced last year due to supposed issues with age, just curious.
