I remember staying at that motel behind the fire station and hearing the mod. Nothing like it at 4AM!

Nice videos! As they say, NY is STH-10 land.
Is the MOD in the video this one by chance?

No, it is located on a pole at the back of the Fire Station in Latham, NY.
Right behind the Travelodge Hotel.

Welcome to NY! Glad you got treated to an STH-10! As Mark said, It's STH-10 country up here, and Model 2/5's are pretty arguable too.

Most other places you find a Thunderbolt, even a dual toned siren, and it's nothing. Here, you find a Thunderbolt (outside of Long Island) and its the hot topic here.
By the way Justie, are you talking about this STH-10?

Yeah, most likely. That's O' Nation FD. The other FD's with "Onondaga" in the name around here is South Onondaga which I believe has a 2 and Onondaga Hill which doesn't use a siren anymore. (They used to have a 5/5T at their old station.) Thunderbolts upstate are very scarce. Syracuse had a HUGE network of them (1000's) which have all since disappeared except for 1, which is at Lyncourt FD (in service as a fire whistle). The locations/details of old local civil defense systems have always peaked my interest, I long to find out more about them. As I said, SU had the T-Bolts, nearby city of Auburn in Cayuga County had SD-10's, there is one left there in service at Sennett FD Station 2 for fire calls, Fulton up north a bit had Model 5/5T's, there is still 1 or 2 still standing, for fire calls (even though Fulton FD is paid). It seems that we like to "recycle" sirens up here. When they get done serving for one purpose, they go elsewhere for another, which I love to see rather than getting a whole new siren or not using one at all. I just hate it when cities/towns throw out perfectly functional sirens.
