Eric Green (CDV777-1) built a 1/6 scale Thunderbolt 1000T. He's the one to talk to about making a scale Thunderbolt model.

The Thunderbolt is not patented.

At a mini scale? Sure.

Just because it has no patent doesn't mean you have all rights to do it (I don't think). I just see some weirdness happening if Federal were to be competing with a siren it used to produce.

Stick to small scale, like Mark N said.

Well I think i could make a different version that federal might fear...

They'd be very confused for one, seeing a siren they haven't made since 1990 back on the market in someone else's name. They'd be mad for two, as the Thunderbolt was designed by FS (granted in the early 50s).

One thing you can do to confuse them less is to design your own siren that is similar to (not the same as) the Thunderbolt.

I say do what you want. If they thought it was worth while they would still make it... And also, when the patent expires, that means you can copy it. If they wanted to protect it, they would renew the patent. That is what a patent is.

Edit: I don't think the thunderbolt had a patent. However you can still search for patents if you want. Here is an example of one that I found using google patent search.

Enjoy

This thread has gone from someone wanting dimensions for making a 1/4 scale 1003 to Federal suing over patent violations? :?:
I think I got lost somewhere.
There has been talk from several people over the years about making scale Thunderbolts. I still haven't seen another one other than mine
and the other guy on youtube that built that cool one out of wood. I think he was in Taiwan.
I would love to see someone else do one but they just never seem to materialize.
