Here is an old tornado safety pamphlet with the old Independence, Mo CD siren locations. This was a classic federal system, with Thunderbolts, 500AT's, 2T's, and 2T22's. These were all replaced in 1999 with 2001 DC's. Several sirens remain, but are inactive. anyways, here is the phamplet:

Here is a pole that a 500AT may have been on. There are several of these poles, and they all have 2001's on them. These are definitely original. There is also a very faded CD sticker on the pole:

EDIT: There is still a Thunderbolt on the power and light building.

That's awesome. I remember a few years back on the board someone said they spotted a 500AT on a pole off of the interstate. Definitely worth looking into.

Yeah, I have been looking for that 500AT all day with no results. I will keep trying!

I'll give a look around later on this week when I am down in that area (GO ROYALS).....I think I have seen a siren off of I-70 some where between 291 Highway and Noland Rd. or possibly Sterling Ave.

Is siren #7 the only one remaining Thunderbolt? I know it was the rusted Jailbar, but it's the only one I remember being there (from info I have come across)

No, there is one on Independence power and light:

(It's on a stairwell to the left of the stacks on the roof.)
My grandpa worked for Independence public works, and he knew quite a few people that work at the plant, so chances are that I will hopefully be able to go up on the roof and check the Thunderbolt out. Time to make some phone calls....

My uncle was born in Independence, but later moved to KC. I recall him telling me that #12 looked like a giant flower (His childhood home is down 35th from the location IIRC).

Very cool find!

Yeah, my mom didn't live very far from that one. That was the closest one to her. It was probably a 2T22

MAXI-TORNADO.

Hmm. That sounds like a low-budget horror film.
