The Siren Board

What is the best nuclear siren? I don't care if it's old or not, just which is best.

A local nuclear power plant near me uses older 2001-SRNB's for their system. I also know of other power plant that use thunderbolts, EOWS 1212's, and modulators. If there are any other sirens you could mention like a T-128 or something, please do.

Erm....

ASC's been winning droves of nuclear contracts as of late, but, really...there's nothing special about a nuclear application (except, hopefully, some distinguishing of signals within the system between nuclear and weather emergencies). This thread is just going to devolve into a "what's the best siren" thread which we've had quite a great deal of already.

Welp... Before it turns into a which is the best... I will say in terms of systems the trojan system looks pretty freaking BA. Too bad it was all disconnected after the plant was demolished.

T-135's, hands down. That's hat they have been installing around the local Dresden Plant. They are a decent replacement than any old 2001 (but a 508 would take the cake too).

In my opinion, Whelen is ok, but I only say this because you can position the siren, and the large selection of signals that they can do.

Well asc is the favorite it seems currently, but t-128's aren't the scariest of sounds if a nuclear plant is going to blow up. I'd say older Whelen like 4008's, or the penetrator series, like the p-50 and cyclone, or what tmi used to had before they borefied their system.

Wish they still made that siren. I bet that those on 560 Hz could give a 508 or T-128 a run for their money in terms range.

A lot of TVA Nuclear Plants around me seem to all use 508s and they seem to work well. Before the 508s were systems of Thunderbolts and STH-10s. I know the Thunderbolts in the Browns Ferry system were 1000s, but I'm not sure about the ones in the system just NE of Chattanooga, TN.
The reason why TVA replaced the systems was because most of the sirens in Browns Ferry's system got knocked offline due to the April 27th, 2011 tornadoes and people wouldn't be able to know that the power plant had gone into a meltdown if it were to do that.

Overall, I agree with what DJ2226 says, but I'd also say that sirens with battery back-up are are a necessity.

Would modulators be a good idea?
