The Siren Board

It only took me a year and a half, but I finally achieved my goal of acquiring a siren through a combination of the holidays and a savvy family member.

It's a Federal Sign & Signal era Model A, 24V AC/DC. Apparently said family member bought it on eBay from someone in South Dakota - not sure where they got it from. From what I'm told it was going to be restored, but instead was accidentally dropped. As a result it's in pretty good shape cosmetically, but the rotor is frozen up...I presume from reading topics on restoration this can be fixed. It also seems to be lacking a cord, and the base doesn't want to work correctly (though this may be my fault from not knowing its definition of "work correctly").

But hey, I'd say it's a pretty good deal. Wouldn't you?

VASirens, other than the minor scuffs on and in the projector, the Model A looks to be in top shape!

I've wanted that siren for a while now, but the high price has always turned me away. It looks to be in good shape.

I couldn't help but notice the Eton ZoneGaurd+. Are those things any good? I have been looking for some kind of a weather alert radio baecause of the frequent severe weather and tornados we get In Minnesota. I know Eton is a good company, I have their Frx 1 for back packing trips.

I would recommend the standard ZoneGuard as a starting radio. Although it doesn't come with Wireless Alert Modules, it still has the same software as the ZoneGuard+.

I'm not terribly certain I could recommend it. I've been having some serious issues with mine that have put me on the fast track to contacting Eton to inquire about repairs. Funnily enough I've never heard of these problems with the plain ZoneGuard...

I think my recommendation would be the Midland WR-300. I've had one since April and over 150-200 alerts later it has yet to fail to sound (since it's another hobby of mine I have my radios set to go off for any and all alerts sent out). Plus it has a similar feature set to the ZoneGuard (albeit without the alert modules, which I honestly think are kind of silly).

Anyway, so as not to veer my own thread off-topic...

I think something's up with the base. I can't seem to get it to stay upright...it just flops back down unnaturally. I'm wondering if a bolt came loose somewhere...any ideas?

Thanks for the info on weather radios. Won't let this thread go off topic anymore. I may start a new thread about wether radios.
