Federal RC5a1

Fri Feb 13, 2015 5:20 am

Looking for information on the federal RC5a1. This siren sits atop my fire station and has stopped working. I'm going to investigate the cause but have no manuals or guidelines to start with. This siren is old but im not sure from when. The station itself was build in 1956 so it may be around that time frame.

Welcome to the board. The RC5A is a motor starter used for Federal Signal three phase sirens (models: 3, 5, 7, SD-10, STH-10, STL-10, 2T22, RSH-10, and 500). Do you have any pictures of the siren unit?

Where are you located? We have members all over the place that can assist.

Manuals are located in this thread: https://airraidsirens.com/forums/viewto ... f=2&t=6855

Have you tried resetting the heaters? When you activate it does the contactor pull in? Check and see if you have all three phases coming into the starter. A siren is just a noisy fan, so the troubleshooting is about the same it is for most electrical motors.

Why Federal ever got rid of that logo/font/color scheme for its labels and marketing, I will never know. /resume discussion.
He died.
