CLM Siren

Tue Feb 17, 2015 11:08 pm

This is an older siren that is in collections at the St. Catharines Museum in St. Catharines Ontario, Canada. I'm a volunteer at the museum, and this past Monday (Family Day in certain provinces) and they were having "Behind The Scenes Tours". I knew the museum had a siren, but I thought it was going to be a Mobil Directo because that's the one that is still standing (last one in St. Catharines, besides a small Model 2 on an old firehouse in Port Dalhousie).

Now this is a very nice find indeed! Not many left, even fewer in possession!

Thanks! It really is! Also, the paint job on the siren shows how short lived St. Catharines siren system's life was. That's the original paint job!

Wow, that one's in pretty good shape compared to most of the other CLM omnis out there. Is it just me though, or is the rotor missing?

The rotor is still there; I can see it in the first photo.
Nice! Glad to hear St. Catherines takes pride in the history of their system! How long did it last exactly?

Welcome to the forum, Millanolo!

Is that Mobil Directo still up in St. Catharines? Years ago there was a rumour there was an Allertor in St. Catharines, but no one could ever confirm.

Thanks for the information! I knew the museum had one and was meaning to go take a look but I thought it was a Mobil Directo. I think they said it was the same as the park but I do like the CLM better!

Thanks! And it is indeed (http://goo.gl/maps/Cn5lh)! I live less than five minutes away from it!

No problem! And while I was down there the curator said they have another one, but I couldn't find it.
