It looks like the folks at Detroit HSEM have basically completed the siren system upgrade, finally. It only took nearly a decade... Anyway here's a link to a short Fox 2 article regarding it.

Would be cool to find a coverage map of the new Detroit system. Any Idea if the system is all 2001's or perhaps some mixed in Modulators like Chicago has?

Is the old system down? I know that there were a few 1000s still up last I checked, which wasn't very recently...

This makes Hamilton County sound not so bad, so far...

I believe the old ones are still standing at least. I'm not very sure what's going to happen to them. But from what was given in the article, it sounds like maybe the 40 sirens that were to sound today were all of the 2001s (SRNB and 130). The remaining 14 that are supposed to be online next month might be what all remained of the old system. I sure hope the old working sirens remain in service.

Why would it take them that long? 10 years is nuts.

Money issues and poor management.

I'm assuming the new sirens are electronic since the following article says that they will have voice capability:

I know there are Modulators at Belle Isle, however all of the other new installs that I've seen were all 2001-130s. Perhaps they've incorporated more modulators into the system elsewhere. Perhaps they're downtown.

Tis Detroit. One has to live here in Michigan to understand the what's and why's how things go on in the "D" as they have. Politics/corruption/poverty are the top three. Seems though things have changed a tad for the better but Detroit has a long ways to go.

I'll say this though Detroit Police and Detroit Fire are probably the bravest Cops and Firefighters known to man.
