Over the years I've turned into a lurker just due to college, girlfriend, work, etc. Finally today I got to do something that I haven't done for a long time, siren hunt! I took these on my way to and from Carbondale.

Here's a white Thunderbolt in Pinckneyville. In addition they have 2 Vortex's and a STH-10

You have no idea how tempting it was

Next I hit Murphysboro. This town is like a Mini-Springfield before they replaced their system. They have 1003s, 1000Ts, STLs, SD-10s and a few 2001s. They also RESTORE their sirens. Crazy right?

On the way back I decided to take the long way home. Here's a Sentry with the unpacked horns syndrome.

This is the coolest one. I have't been to this town in over 6 years but I remember they had a Sparton/Darley of somesort and I had to make sure it was still there, sure enough it still was! It's even got police siren speakers on the pole. The Darley and it are old coal mine sirens and won't go anywhere for a long, long time.

That Sparton siren looks like a Darley siren, especially in the first photo.
Loved the Murphysboro read!

Nice photos. The Darley /Sparton looks cool. Anyone know how many ports it has & if it is single tone or dual tone?

That siren is a Darley model 2

Edit: just realized what I have included in this post is pretty well all included on the city website linked in the photos by the OP. Oh well, I thought that was the case but previously had dificulty finding that page on the City's site.

Hey all, havent been on here much as I have been busy but I check up on things occasionally and noticed this thread is relevant to me as I live in Murphysboro. Anyway I believe we actually have three thunderbolts plus the other sirens mentioned. There are two others that I know of and the one pictured by the OP was actually not a refurbishment, but is an entirely new installation within the last year(the existing ones were refurbished at the same time though). Previously there was no siren at that site. I know of 3 total 2001 Instalations, 2 being installed in the last few years, and I also know of 1 sd-10. I believe there are more but I either don't know of, or recall the others. I really should get pictures of them all, but havent ever gotten around to it.

That Darley is much too small to be a Model 2 guts. It's most likely like the larger six-port sirens, with the motor on top and rotor on bottom.

No kidding?! Awesome! I'm (hopefully) going to SIU next fall and I'm doing quite a bit involving sirens and fun stuff like that. We'll have to meet up sometime!
