Trip to Pennsylvania

Fri Mar 20, 2015 1:19 am

Hello members. Sorry for a late post.
I was on a trip to Pennsylvania from March 8 to March 10 because for a funeral I had to go to (my great uncle passed away, as you probably already know that). I was able to shot siren photos when I was there mostly in Pennsylvania.

Here are the pics:

^First stop is the Model 5/7 located in downtown Canonsburg, PA on top of Canonsburg Fire Department. I was told it's used for fire calls and tested weekly. He didn't say the exact date when it's tested.

^After I went to the funeral (March 9), I went to lunch with my cousins at a different location, it was luckily to be in Slippery Rock, PA at Slippery Rock Fire Department (that has the EOWS 115)! I got recent status about the siren, they fixed the siren a few years ago. The siren is now used for tornado warnings. It's tested at the first Monday of each month at 6:00 PM.

^Another stop is the Federal Signal Model 2 located in Grove City, PA at Center Street (208) and Tidball Avenue. I think it's used for fire calls and tornado warnings.

^Another stop is the Model 2/2T located in Grove City, PA at Main Street (58) near Breckenridge Street. I think it's used for fire calls and tornado warnings. Sorry for blurry pics of the siren, it was dark time.

^Starting to return home, I was able to stop by the Federal Model B (single head) located in Bridgeville, PA at Kirwan Heights Fire Department. It was used for fire calls but now it's not used. Location first discovered by VASirens.

^Not really expected plan to stop by the Federal Model 5C/7C (I was told it's coded!!) located in Scott Township, PA at Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department. The siren does alert, attack, or pulse for any area fire calls.

^Last stop is the Sentry Siren (model unknown) located in Burnsville, WV at Burnsville Fire Department(?) near a school and near Interstate 79. Usage status unknown.

Awesome photos! Wasn't expecting to hear that Slippery Rock's 115 is alive again...someone will have to swing by there sometime.

Wow, I thought Slippery Rock's "lightning rod" would be 100% dead, taken down and put through the scrapper by now. Hopefully they learned their lesson and installed an actual lightning rod nearby.

I had missed the post you made about coming up here until after you had come and gone, if you have to come back up please drop me a line and I will give you a full and complete list of what you will find wherever you are going in Pa. Traveling up Route 70 past Washington you can see one of the remaining ACA Alertronic 6000R sirens from the Washington CD system if you know where to look, kind of a rare siren as far as sirens go. Also in Washington you will see a lots and lots of steel mill buildings, most of the clusters have a siren at them that acts as a noon/quitting time siren... I was never there to hear any of them go off but I know they are still there.
