New Sirens for Stewart County, GA

Stewart County had a system of 5 Vortex R4s, 3 with the fin being installed sometime in 2000 and 2 newer ones. Two of them in Richland and Lumpkin had busted rotators, so the county decided to replace them with Sentry 16V1T-Bs. The one in Lumpkin had basically turned into a giant wind vane, and since Whelen rotating sirens are hardwired y'all know what happens when the array gets spinning to much. I was able to stop by the one in Richland to catch the first run of the siren seen here, activated by Mr. Wise. It's one loud siren I tell you what. Here are some pictures of the sirens:

I always wondered... What makes those batteries different from commercial grade car batteries other than shape?

We use "Red Tops" because of the CCA capabilities, the fast re-charge and the excellent hassle free warranty. We are seeing 7 years plus with these batteries. Yes, they may be a bit more expensive, but why would you trust something so important with an inferior product?

I hate to say this: but because of the economy. Because of limited incomes. Remember: SFO went for a highly inferior product because the creators of said product were the lowest bidders. So far the product is... Ehh... Only sorta doing it's job.

I see that makes sense. i wasn't sure if there was a difference between these and the ones commercially used in cars so thats why i asked

Thanks for sharing those pictures! I have always wondered what the inside of the Sentry battery boxes looked like, and how the setup was arranged. Looks very clean, but simple, and easy to work on.

So the siren motor is DC or they use a converter?
