Whelen 3016 Siren Test Bellevue, OH

Tue Jul 07, 2015 3:29 am

Finally, after the third try, I got Bellevue's sirens going off. You can hear the 4004 on the NW side of town throughout the test.

Anyone know what controller this siren has? It sounds exactly like the one I recorded in Bedford Park a month ago.

An early ESC-864 analog controller.

Thanks! This siren sure has quite a lean to it!

Wonder why it only oscillates 270°? Intentional or is something broken

I think it is because of the static sustained with collector rings (and it doesn't have any) if it rotated 360 degrees.

1) What are you even trying to say?

2) Whatever it is it's wrong. Every other Whelen oscillates 360°. What would be the point of mass producing a product that leaves 90° uncovered?

In rewatching the video I'm going with something's broken. The siren winds up and oscillates to the point it should normally reverse at. But then it struggles hardcore to continue rotating at the point it begins to reverse at for the rest of its sounding.

Is it that the clockspring rotation mech. has flown south? It seems so, it hung up a little at one point.
Nonetheless, you gotta love the mixing of harmonics between the other sirens, sounds like a lower pitched 10/16 Decot.

I thought Whelens used limit switches.

Yes they use limit switches. No clockspring, just a wiring harness that has enough slack to twist back and forth.
