If you had a Hurricane 130 Round horn (lets be honest, you probably don't) could you cut off the horn and fit
a square horn? Or would it not be the same?

Also, who on this board owns a Hurricane?

Well, to be honest, a few members here own hurricanes. One of our own moderators even owns a square horned hurricane.

Asking will get you very far here! :)

SQUARE HORNED OHH MMMAA GOOSHHH!!

Ok... now i've calmed down...is there a post regarding the square horned hurricane?

He had it for sale too... I don't think he is still selling it though...

He was selling it at a time where he needed it gone/needed the money, and it looks like right now that isn't the case. Should he put it back on the market, I'm likely going to put an offer in.

Either way, the Square Horn is really interesting and reminds me so much of a Thunderbolt. Was it simply not practical?

Wasn't as efficient as the round horn. It's fiberglass and was complicated and expensive to make.

Makes sense. Seems more like a novelty idea though and I can see why collectors would want one.

Hi guys. Yes I was selling it because times were tough but I figured in a few years when I'm done with school I'll finally have the money and time to fix it up right. The head is still taken apart, down in Pinckneyville, IL at a family business. The blower is, and has been at a motor shop for years. I've just been too busy to go and pick it up. Here's a recent photo

As far as the whole round horn, square horn thing, square horns were just a prototype. Before investing in machined patterns ACA made fabricated patterns and molds and changed them often. The horn was square because the mold was welded together 1/8" sheet steel sides that were step formed to the exponential curve. Then they were coated in fiberglass.

Doubt anyone would want to cut up an already rare siren to make a rarer one...

The round horn is fiberglass. I don't see why the H-130 horn would be any harder or more expensive to make than the MK-II round horn.
