So if anyone remembers this:

I recently drove by the area and apparently last week, a new 2001-130 was installed next to it. According to this article, the old siren needed replaced and it weighs too much, whereas the new 2001-130 only weighs 59 pounds.

Do you experts know if the claim is actually true, whether or not a siren actually weighs 59 pounds? Also, how would you guys go about trying to acquire and restore this old siren? I'd like to assist in taking it down and restore it for another community.

The 2001 is like 100lb heavier. The weight listed in the cutsheet is 450lb

That's what I thought. If 2001s were only 59 pounds, I think we'd see less of them staying in good shape.

The only full size outdoor warning siren that weighs anywhere near 59 lbs is a Model 2/2T.

Yes, the 2001 weighs about 59lbs. Plus 361lbs. The 2001-130 manual says the siren's dead weight is about 420 lbs total, So I think that my math is correct...

It's Killbuck. I haven't got a clue why they care more about the weight rather than the sound.

Lighter weight means a smaller crane if they need to take it down for extreme maintenance? A smaller crane to put it up? Less guys to shuffle it around? I don't know.

I also find it hilarious how they don't even care about the upgrade they just got in coverage.

I honestly don't know why they cared about that siren specifically when they have a function 2001-SRNB not too far from it in the same town. Then again, I don't know how well those things cover. I only know what they sound like up close, with the exception of hearing the 2001-DC in Berlin yesterday from nearly a mile.
