I got a little ticked seeing this but I looked here: https://em.countyofdane.com/warning/sirens.aspx and I looked at the siren upgrades for Dane County WI and I found one of them to be the HOR Super Sirex in downtown and said it's going to be replaced.

That is a shame. Does it not work? Not a big enough coverage area? Also that's kinda nice they tell you which ones are being replaced. I just tried finding them on Hennepin and Ramsey county MN, but they don't have them.

Did some snooping around... I eventually got to a forum post from 2010 about a student who wanted to enroll in St. Thomas. Found a T-bolt 1000 I never new existed in st. Paul. On top of the horticulture building at the state fair. Someone posted a link to something that said they planned on replacing all 37 of them. I checked google maps and it looks like they didn't actually get around to it until sometime between early 2013 to late 2014. That is why April first's test sounded so weird to me. That was the first time I ever heard a 2001-130.

I guess they are pushing to replace it because it's 3 phase and has "exceeded it's lifespan". More than likely they will end up destroying it and any other siren they remove... Their director is something else. *angry facepalm through head* That aside the general idea the director gave was that they'd keep it up because the siren was solidly built. A lot of this is driven by wanting to get rid of 3 phase sirens. They are actually keeping the old single phase Model 5/7Bs to bridge gaps in coverage because of the cheaper cost to keep them up and running. Their 3 phase must be EXPENSIVE to want to replace sirens just 'cause.

The HOR Super Sirex is 125 decibels. I'd probably go with a 508 at 128 decibels but due to it being in downtown it could be a MOD II (8032B) at 124 decibels

Chances of them putting any electronic sirens are very slim. They are not interested in them, which is why they are also planning on removing the EOWS sirens and replacing them. It's hard to say what will be replacing it. When Travis posted online he said that the EMA would replaced anything that doesn't fit the 508's 70 dB coverage with a T-128, Eclipse 8 (highly doubt that), or Equinox. My guess is that they've suffled some of the existing systems around and ended up with some extra sirens that could be relocated.
