The Siren Board

Yeah I have some personal HOR pictures, this is the HOR I see most frequently..These pictures are not even a month old, so here:

I tried to get it at alot of angles:





For the next three pictures if you look closely at the circular base there is a little bird that is living in the siren..
























Now on this one I took to show how far away the control box is..(It is down by that big box looking cabinet)









Here is the control box anybody know what kind this is the other HOR at Tonolea has this kind too except it still has all of its civil defense markings. The button at the bottom is the attack button.

You don't want to hear that siren. It's menacing, mean ugly. About the purest classic mechancial siren tone ever made, and VERY loud.

It does look like the housing will dampen the sound so that it will only flow downward to those poor, frightened school children.

Getting a video of one of those dual-toned HORs is really one of the few Holy Grails of the siren world that we have left!

I guess it's just a matter of finding one that's still active.

Well, I have been trying to find out of who is incharge of the sirens but I have no clue whether it is the school, county, city or the local fire station because I would like to know what is planned for the sirens in the future.. I would love to have one.

Does this siren rotate 360 degrees? How many dB is it rated at? I would love to hear one in action.

They had 3-phase, 40-hp motors! About 125 dB.

That one would not carry as far as most, however, as it is mounted so low.

Whoa! That control box is huge, and the siren looks like a small jet engine!

Yeah it is not like all sirens from what my dad says is he remembers the last test sometime in 1976 it even got on the news.. He said they reported it as the "Annoyance's (The 2 Civil Defense Siren's) of the city are now throwing in the towl for good". The other HOR at Tonolea Elementary is in much better condition, though I still wish I had pictures of that one but I lost them when I upgraded to Vista I will have to go back because I have only seen the HOR at Tonolea once...

Does anyone have a recording of one of these? By the way, very nice pictures!
