Today I went up to Manitowoc to record this 1970's vintage Dual Tone ACA Allertor on top of the Highway shop. The siren sounded in a Alert this week. I apologize for the shakiness I was in the middle of an old farm field and it was very windy out.

Manitowoc's original system was all ACA Allertors installed in 1978 Located at N 26th and Hamilton st. Washington park. Stangel Elementary (replaced by a T-128 in 2008 after motor died) and broadway ave (replaced by a T-128 sometime after October 2008 after the motor died)
In 1997 the City added Additional ASC RM-127's to the Original Civil Defense system to beef up coverage.

All Sirens in Manitowoc are activated by Radio.

Man that paint just shines!

It is a very nicely painted siren, but the motor seems to be getting tired. What camera did you use to take the still images? I'm impressed by the huge resolution of 4608x3456

I did notice the motor on this one is getting tired but, not quite as bad as the one on 26th and Hamilton.
For my still photos I use a GE X450 it is a great camera for the price and is very durable.

Motor sounds normal to me, like a typical 10 horse Allertor. It could be single phase and the run caps are getting a little weak.

Is it mounted on an old Thunderbolt blower standpipe? Sure looks like one.

That probably is the case I remember hearing some where that all of Manitowoc's Allertors are single phase. I do not think they have every really done any maintenance to them except for giving the one on 26th and Hamilton a coat of paint. I think the death of the one's that were removed in 2009 were either bad run capacitors or the run capacitors never kicked in because they sounded like they never reached full peak after winding up.

It definately looks like it is. I've seen several Thunderbolt's mounted on the side of buildings that way.

How long ago did you hear that it was in a motor shop? I don't know what a motor shop would do with an old siren with a brunt up motor if it is not going back into service.
