The Siren Board

Well the Town of North Smithfield just contacted me and they said they are getting rid of all their remaining CD sirens. I found one, I can't figure out if it is a model 5 or not, it's a little beat up but hey there's not a lot of sirens in RI.

That would be a Fedelcode Model 5. Similar guts to a Federal Model 5, just the housing is a bit different.

Does anybody have a fedelcode model 5? What is the difference between federal signal model and and fedelcode model 5 other than the housing? I might buy this siren, but how big is it, and if anybody owns one, how difficult are they to maintain (bearings, motor, etc)? Thanks

Iirc it's got the same insides but a different housing. Only difference. My shiny model 5 is a federal signal but I will say it's super heavy (even more so than my thunderbolt) and the weight is somewhat awkward because a good chunk of the weight is at the top so it gets pretty weird on a dolly. It also has a roof mount at the bottom making the weight even more awkward. As for height they are pretty close to 6 ft tall. (Or mine is thanks to the roof mount.)

Fedelcodes are coded versions of Federals standard sirens, in this instance, Model 5.

Not necessarily. While some are coded, a lot aren't. Given that this was a CD siren, I don't see any reason as to why it would be coded.

Definitely a Fedelcode 5/7. They were made until the 1940s or 50s, when the later design was started.
