Well,
The last thunderbeam in st. Peter's Mo has been replaced with a 2001. I don't know why they would replace it as it was as healthy it can be.

Damn, the thunderbeam is actually an interesting siren... Sad to see them replaced

It was a single phase model and was tested in attack . Now the 2t22B on mexico is all thats left of the original system

3 reasons:

1. "It's too old" thinking, which is bad, if it's running fine.

2. No battery backup.

3. Something was broken on it. Thunderbeams have a problem with the disc rotation mechanism breaking. And, along with reason #1, I don't think you can get parts from Federal anymore.

That's one siren I've never seen in person.

Well, at least there are PLENTY of more RSH-10's in the wild. As long as the siren gets replaced by something that can scale up to it, such as a Whelen, 2001, ect ect, its a fine replacement. I own the chopper and stator to a RSH-10, no motor unfortunately, so no drill runs, no housing either. I can see that parts are hard to get, even though it uses the same chopper and stator as a STH-10, which only went out of production within the last 15 years, but I can imagine the disc rotating mechanism failing, so I can see why it is being replaced, IF that is the case.

Are you referring to the Thunderbeam on Mexico Road in the Cave Springs area? Didn't know it had been replaced.

I took a ride a few months ago and discovered that the T-Bolt on Kimberly Drive by the water tower had been replaced by a 2001. Sucks that there are no more T-Bolts in St. Charles County, or St. Louis County for that matter.

You can bet that the 2T22 in front of Ft. Zumwalt South High School is living on borrowed time.

Yes the on mexico and Cave springs. It was also replaced by a 2001. I do agree that the 2T22B has limited time before it goes too

I took a ride today to see the new 2001 and saw that it was located on the parking lot of the former National Weather Service building.

Has the Thunderbeam at Stone Mill Drive and Mill Side Drive near Laurel Park been replaced as well? I just saw that one this past Fall when out siren "hunting."

I was hoping that St. Peters would replace a few of their old sirens with Federal 508's.

I am not sure yet as I haven't rode down that way in a while but if it is still there that thunderbeam might also get replaced as well

To be fair though, a 2001 siren ain't a bad choice for replacing a Thunderbeam, especially considering the fact that both sirens are 12-port single-tone sirens.
