Was browsing Instagram when I came across a photo of the Poinsett Hotel in Greenville, SC. On top of it was a strange rectangular object, and I decided to see the close up photos. Here is a good close up:

(P.S How do I upload photos from my computer to this thread?)

What a find! I wonder if the old girl still runs.

And to post pictures from your PC, you add an attachment, its down at the bottom below the submit button,
where the options to disable BBCode, smilies, etc. are, there's a tab that says "Attachments."
Just click "Add files" and you're good to go.

If you want to place it somewhere specifically in your post, there'll be a button that says "Place inline", it will place the attachment
wherever you're at in your post.

I saw that siren a couple years back. It really was something to see the "king of sirens" if you will. I was told the siren was put in sometime in the 50s and the last time it sounded was around 1986-1987.

Very cool pictures, thanks for sharing! That exhaust manifold looks like it's about to fall into pieces.

I wonder how hard it would be to get it off of the roof...

We were contacted by the owner of the hotel about restoring the siren. It would have to be removed by helicopter. Getting a suitable enough crane into the historic district there would have been a logistical nightmare.
Because of the cost to remove, restore and re-install the siren back up on the hotel the owner decided to wait and maybe do it at a later date.

This siren is inactive. But it's on display for the hotels history. If it were me I would repaint it to a nice red.
