I’ve got an interesting one for you all. I found a image of a sound study from klaxon of a ES siren system for a refinery, now I know it’s the Pembrokeshire Refinery, so have at it and try locate all of them

Will do. That reminds me, I forgot to say this before but the Chapelcross ex-nuclear power station tests its Klaxon GP6 on the first Thursday of every month. Also, it might just be me, but when I recorded it (the file of which I don't think that I am permitted to share, I had to gain official security clearance to do so), it sounded like there were 2 sirens on the site. It may have just been the main siren echoing, but the windup just seemed very distinct.

That surprises me that it’s not allowed to be released. If the siren can be heard from off site, which presumably it can as it needs to fulfil its function as an outdoor warning device and warn neighbours and residents beyond the plant boundaries, then what’s to stop me from recording it from off site, say in a field or something?

Official security clearance seems logical, but I’m not sure why they wouldn’t want people to know what the alarm sounds like.

Yeah, I did ask about the whole no photography thing, and they said that it is because there is still some important stuff on-site. The place used to be used to make nuclear weapons, after all. I think that you are allowed to photograph the site, but just not in proper detail, as in not close up. Honestly, I am not too sure about whether I would be permitted to upload the recording here, so I will ask the staff again at some point. Another slightly confusing point is that fact that you can see into the site relatively clearly on Google StreetView, which obviously goes against their policy, but I don’t know. There is a LOT of signage around the site warning of criminal fines if photos are taken, so they don’t take this kind of thing lightly.

So yeah, I will ask the staff about the recording again.

The photography rule only applies if you are within the boundary of the nuclear installation, there is nothing stopping you from taking photos from the road as the photography rule doesn’t apply to you. They cannot enforce site rules to a member of public outside their site. You can take photos and videos of anything that you can see from a public place. Now I wouldn’t suggest going to a nuclear installation and recording all access and egress points of the site as that would undoubtedly raise concerns but a video of the siren wouldn’t be too bad compared to what I’ve just said.

Ok so,

The roof mounted screamer in torpoint that people call an s10 looks more to be an s5. I go to the bus stop opposite often for work and tend to observe it. I have no clue if it works, nor do I know if it is connected to any type of system. If I had to guess, I’d say it might’ve been used as a wake up call maybe? Or to signify a certain time in the day? I do know that it was given in a deal between ACA and Klaxon (although I think the other 2 sirens that were given were removed sadly).

I’ve spent a bit of time scouring the internet to find something that tells what its used for but didn’t find anything. Definitely sure that its not connected to the devonport sirens.

The shape looks more like an s5 though. Hope it stays there since its a extremely rare sight in the uk.

i think i found the siren on top the SRC (Submarine Refit Complex)

take a look and see, thats the only siren-like shape there

I can tell you that this is a Secomak CS8.

I have a friend that works in the dockyard and he has confirmed it.

I would quickly like to bring to attention that there may be/have been a siren situated in Longtown, Carlisle. I have heard reports from some of my family members that they remember hearing one sounding when they were in the town, and from what I gather, this was relatively recently (within the last 30 years or so). I am not personally going to be devoting hours of time looking for this siren, but I wanted to bring it to attention for anyone who is more willing to find it.

UPDATE:

Ok, so I did end up doing a little bit of searching. It turns out that MOD Longtown does have some emergency sirens, and there certainly are some siren-like shapes on-site. I will try and gather more information on the site's siren(s?). However, I do think that there may be some other warning sirens off-site, but I am unsure.

As of now, all I know is that there is at least 1 siren (referred to as the 'Site Emergency Siren' in the booklet) on-site, and that it is tested every Wednesday at 9:30 AM.
