I don't think there is any such thing as an "ugly" siren. Sirens, like all machines, are fascinating pieces of work in my opinion, especially from a technical standpoint. And really, function > aesthetics if you ask me. As long as it works I couldn't care what the thing looked like.

John Day Paintcan siren. So weird

In Franklin County, Ohio, I found a WPS-4004 in the process of being installed. It has the rotator and control box, but no batteries or head.

The Whelen 2000-R looks so hastily assembled, just a spinning stack of speakers no polish or anything.
It's ugly in a charming sense, that's how I feel about all sirens that might look aesthetically unappealing, pretty much. The 2000-R still remains a favorite of mine due to nostalgia either way but there's no denying how hilarious they are.

Just chiming in, whatever is pretty or ugly is all just subjective.

I still think the Sacramento Bullard takes the cake.
