SD-10 Wiring

Hi all,

I've been tasked to refurbish the paint on an SD-10, however as it has apparently sat for a while I am wanting to corroborate my wiring with what others have used on here before. It will be installed by our city electric guys, however they have little knowledge of sirens. The controller is all in place, we are just replacing the head.

Is it single phase or 3 phase? Single phase will have 2 main wires coming out from motor. 3 phase will have 3 main wires coming out, but they are formed from 9 lead wires coming out of the motor and joined together depending on high or low voltage. The tag on the motor should also say. With 3 phase it’s important whether your supply is 240 or 480 volts and which way the siren is wired. You can almost always change the motor voltage from 240 to 480 (or vise-versa) with a 3 phase. The direction of spin doesn’t not matter for an SD-10 siren on 3 phase power (some sirens are only meant to spin one direction)

Can you post any pictures? And what town/area...just out of curiosity.

Figure 3-14, on page 21 here, for 3 phase motors:

Thanks! I will get some pictures tomorrow when I am back on shift. The siren is located in Grant County, KY. I believe it will be getting a full refurbishment.

Can anyone confirm if removing the chopper from the motor is as easy as unbolting it from the centre of the chopper and it slides off? Pictures below any wiring advice appreciated as I cannot see plate anywhere.

You'll need a wheel puller with Grade 8 bolts to get the rotor off.
