This thing sounds horrible!! Half way through the video the chopper quits and you hear the blower and then it comes on and off and then goes out again. This thing is so horrible.

My guess is that either the collector rings and brushes have had it, the rotor motor is about to go and/or the timer needs retirement.

That is one sick siren in need of a restoration.

If that siren were a smoker, it would be smoking 6 packs of unfiltered 120's a day for 30 years!
I couldn't keep from laughing when that T-bolt went off. It sounds like a drunken and dying elephant, or Gorgo. LOL
At least the blower works :) It's clearly audible.

I could make a better Thunderbolt imitation in attack mode with my voice
that would sound better than that!

If that siren were any sicker, it would have a box of tissues and Claritin and a bowl of chicken noodle soup on the horn! Are you thinking what I'm thinking?... But seriously, they need to get maintenance on that thing!

I have been next to this siren when it was being testing back in 1986. There is something very wrong with the chopper motor on this siren. When I heard it in person, it sounded just like this siren:

If someone can confirm the exact location of this siren, I will contact the EMD director up in Plymouth. I suspect its right next to the fire and police stations.
