Looks like an 80's ACA encoder on top You can see an example in this ad:

that looks exactly like it, it is wired into the rear of the radio below it, im told the siren could be remotely turned on with a 2 tone signal, any input on any of that?

Motor's not original (I'm fairly certain), but nice it's a capacitor start and run. And nice that it's a Baldor.

With regards to your 2 tone activation. Your ACA encoder feeds sound into that transmitter which then broadcasts the two tones on a radio frequency and it'll be picked up by any equipment that listens in. The siren's radio will be listening and will trigger when the two tones are heard in a sequence. It will trigger an output relay corresponding to what the two tones mean.

wow, thanks for the breakdown,.... (in detail!) so, the motor is stamped- 5 (may), 1979. you think the siren is older than that? my local electric motor guy tells me he is shocked to see that the motor has a standard id plate that shows it should be single shaft. (he thought it should have been factory changed to what the motor actually is) It came out of a fire dept in NH. I cant wait to fire it up !!

The siren is definitely way older than the motor. Probably made around the 30s-40s. Looks like they swapped the original with a single phase. I wonder how that worked out.

Do you have the controls to the siren head itself?

That motor could very well be original. In fact, 1979 sounds about right for capicator start/run. Keep in mind, the M-10 was discontinued sometime after 1984, as shown here:

You're right on saying that the siren is older than the motor, I'm going to make a shot in the dark by guessing that your M-10 might be from the 1930's or the 1940's (IIRC)
EDIT: it's also possible your M-10 was one of the last ones, as Jared said those were discontinued apparently in the 80's
Eithier way this is a very nice one you've got here, 8/16 Sterlings are my favorites.

Thanks for all the info!! I definitely joined the right forum group!! I don’t have the controls for the siren head- what do they look like? Does anyone have a pic or model number of what originally ran the siren?
