Thunderbolt Color

Thu Aug 09, 2007 11:24 pm

The more I take apart my siren, the more I notice that it's not "CD" yellow, but more of a mustard yellow.
Should I stay original or another color?

when I mean "Two Tone" I mean.......

I think that CD yellow is the best color for the Thunderbolt sirens, though mustard yellow comes in as a very close contender.

I got the Sunburst Yellow(by suggestion) and painted the rotator cap with it.
Putting that next to the timer cabinet they are completely different.
When I was stripping the rotator box and on the compressor box, the darker "Mustard" color is very visible. So I would think that's the original color.

I have yet to see a two tone survive til the modern times, so it would be nice.

Oh, be careful; the paint may be lead based; so a respirator and gloves are recommended. :)

Could explain why the paint is slightly darker in colour too.

Two-tone is my favorite, I think that only lasted about 2 years of federal signal painting probably due to the complex stripes. Another thing that federal had for about 2 years was the small lightning bolt logo on the projector horn.

So would the pic I have above be Black and White or Black and Yellow?

The Thunderbolt in the pic would be black and white; look at the "Let's Face It" video on this site.

I found the link in the audio forum.
Sweet.
I see the "F" on the rotator box, but what is it supposed to say before it? "FEDERAL"?

And the screen in it just looks like flat bars, or does it have "mesh" screen in it?
