I found myself just down the road in Cuba City today, where I recorded something that had a little personal significance. Thursday October 11th, 2018, the City of Platteville's last noon whistle sounded. The city's common council voted in late September to permanently silence the noon siren. The reason this siren in Cuba City has any relation to me or Platteville is because this 2001 used to sit on the roof of the Platteville Police Department before the Whelens were installed, and presumably sounded Platteville's daily noon whistle. In 2013 the Platteville Fire Department sold this 2001 to Cuba City, to replace a Model 5 that sat on top of the exact same pole. Cuba City also has a Whelen Hornet (heard right before the 2001 winds up), and an STH-10 (heard right after the 2001 winds up).
