I found something absolutely stunning. I was on Facebook and came across a video of Sacramento's E.D Bullard siren which is supposedly the only rotating model still in existence being sounded off for special permission. Sacramento's CD system has been decommissioned since 2009 ,but is still hooked up for some reason. So a city worker set it off for this guy.
Woooow!!! I have always wondered what these sounded like. I had assumed they would be lower pitched, I wasn't expecting a mini 2001. It seems to have pretty good bearings for it's age.
Also, here's a youtube mirror for people who don't have a Facebook:
Crazy right? I was shocked when the camera panned up and realized it was the Bullard. It's just unfortunate that Sacramento's CD system has been decommissioned since 2009 and no longer tests ,but someone was able to talk to the city about sounding this rare beast off. I Believe that person was Carson McGee that requested them to sound it off ,as well as a news reporter that wanted to see it ,and the city actually did. What's also surprising is apparently they left the system hooked up.

There’s a hell of a story here.
So it all began late last year, when one of our own (Valtonus) posted a blurb on r/Sacramento about the siren system, which promptly took off and caught the attention of one John Bartell, a reporter with ABC10. He reached out to Valtonus, and after months of negotiation with the building owners, a time was set. That time turned out to be Sunday, probably around noon (Apr. 7 2019, for anyone reading this in the distant future). None of us had any idea until yesterday, when the video ended up on Facebook. Valtonus was, of course, the first to know. Most of us found out when he shared it to the ARS Discord and the Facebook group.
THREE CHEERS FOR VALTONUS!!!

I didn't expect it to be a 12-porter though! What a find!

I am very happy I was able to work with a reporter from Sacramento to pull this off. I owe this all to John Bartell, ABC10. He reached out to me After I made the Reddit post and the siren I expressed the most interest in was the Bullard, so he focused on that. It will be a story soon.
