Same FS siren modification (cone hood over horns) found in multiple places? Have you seen one of these?

I've found three completely unrelated (except for being in West Virginia) locations where a Federal Signal siren with horns (STH-10 or XT22) has a cone hood (like that of the Models 2, 5, 7) on top of it.

Here are the three I've seen:
Slanesville, WV https://goo.gl/maps/sDBeEKiWB9NDQkvE8
Kingwood, WV https://goo.gl/maps/gUepwiMqR1yoXJ8h6
Aurora-Terra Alta, WV https://goo.gl/maps/4Yz1vuV2hwVCtDo96

I was wondering if this was a somewhat common modification and if any of you have seen this elsewhere.

Never seen that before. Was it a rare factory option?

They all look different to me. I don't understand why it would be needed on an STH-10 but if the intake cone on a 2/3T22 were to fall off or be destroyed, then I could understand. Because they all look different to each other, I highly doubt this was a factory option.

Been by the Slanesville siren many times. One time when I went by it was taken down, then the next time it was back up but didn't have the hood on it. And then it had the hood and has had it ever since. Perhaps it was the hood of an old siren? Very interesting, never really thought about it too much.

It's been a few years since I've been past it, but I heard they were getting it repaired. Interesting, I wonder who repaired it.
