I went for a drive 35 miles north and saw a healthy looking thunderbolt 1003 at the Massey township government building.
It's almost that time of the month again and I was considering going back up to watch it go off since I've never heard a thunderbolt in person.
Does anyone know if this is still active before I go on about nothing?
I have a picture but I get a 413 error when I upload it.
Are you talking about the Thunderbolt 1003 at the Massie Township Fire Department in Harveysburg, Warren County, Ohio? If so, yes it is active and it tests on the first Wednesday of the month at noon. It was "refurbished" around 2010-2011 and reinstalled. I believe it came from nearby Lebanon, Ohio.

To my knowledge, it should still be active.

Yes, it is still active. It has malfunctioned in the past, but should be operational now.
Here's a screenshot of the Massie Township meeting minutes from July 2018 concerning that particular siren:

I think they have fixed it since then. Sirens Of SW Ohio recorded a video of it on April 3, 2019. I wish they would fix the (what I think is) reverse-wired blower. Since it's reversed it has that higher-pitched, not quite as loud effect on the siren's tone.
Huh. I had no idea werden went that far north. Makes sense, they have a stack of Thunderbolts and thunderbolt accessories out front last I checked.
Does it ever do alternate wails or do they use this like it's a stock 1000?
It activates with Warren County, which only does a three minute alert signal for their testing.

Sadly, Ohio man never made it to the 1003, as he was instead distracted by the 1000 near the corner store by Caesars Creek.
Yeah at the last minute I saw this whitewashed 1000 (I took a different route to get there) and filmed that one instead. It roared and was wired correctly, at chopper level 1. Even with the windows up in my truck it still shook everything.

That’s the 4/5 Port Thunderbolt near Oregonia. I filmed it last month. It’s only about 30 minutes away from where I live at.
Mr. Werden installed a 4/5 port chopper in it as the original 5/6 port one was damaged beyond repair internally. Federal Field did not do a great job installing those two Thunderbolts. If Mr. Werden had not repaired them, they likely would have been told they needed new sirens.
