Very cool. There is no way you can get a crane up there anyways. It would be way too unstable. The only alternative is to contract a heavy lifting company with helicopters to bring it down. Prepare to dish out $20,000+ just to get a chopper out there. The owners will not take any offers because they do not want any liability of a company on their property removing the siren.
Yeah, I actually had business up in KC (it's a hour and a half drive from my hometown), so I went up there and asked the on-site managers about it. Really friendly, personable ladies. Then got a call from them and went back a couple days later and went up there. Yeah, again due to the height an external crane is out of the question. I felt a forklift or any equipment on the roof (they had a large freight elevator, say around 20'X30' or so) would be a concern about falling through to the floor below being as the siren itself weighs 2.7 tons. I also assumed the liability issues and concerns about damage to the building were the reason the owners weren't taking offers on it. To be honest I'm surprised it's still standing. The tower it's on was swaying and moving with me and another person up on it.

Well of course it's still there. It's been there for the past 50-60 years and it'll probably rot up there. I remember talking to the KCMO EMA director about it and he had pursued some interest in it and actually referred me to a guy who had everything lined up to take it down. Last time I talked to him he sent me those photos I have of it and he said it was slated for removal the next month. I suppose that deal fell through
Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.

Personally, I disagree with you. I think geographical areas should be put into play here, but every man has his own opinion.

On a side note, one of the Sentries in Sugar Hill, GA is at a golf course that is on a huge hill that overlooks a river valley area.

I also feel that what's left of a Thunderbolt at Oak Grove ES in N. Atlanta is kind of high, keep in mind the rest of the Tbolts in the county were mounted like that with the exception being the one on the county courthouse in Decatur, which was on the roof. The courthouse is about a 12-14 story building.

But, let's be honest here, what's more impressive, a siren 10 ft off the ground on a mountain, or a siren (exaggerating here) 60-70 ft off the ground on a pole?

It's solely someone's opinion. Personally, I care for the geographics more an actual high mounted siren. This is just me though, I am sure someone (like you) has a different opinion, and I respect that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, as I said before.

I didn't know sirens could be mounted high.
I am in Ms. Scott's classroom right now. It's 12:45 PM.

There is a siren that is 30 feet off the ground at Kyte Monroe Park on Harper Road in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. It is a Federal Signal 2001 SRNB.

In Kalamazoo, MI there is a Thunderbolt at the top of a tall building.
My other ride is a 1950 Chrysler-Bell Victory siren.
